This project started with very minimal funding ($ 250.00 USD) to provide milk rations to disabled children from families living in extreme poverty. With the limited funds available, we are providing fortified powdered milk to six children for a period of 5 months. As additional funds become available, we will continue this level of support plus provide food rations, school supplies, and clothing to these and other families. There are many disabled children in the Ampara District where we (Missions of Hope and the Ampara YMCA) are actively working to provide some basic needs for the disabled children of families among the poorest of the poor. The help that we provide will not resolve the problems of the poor disabled, but it will ease some of their suffering and give them hope for better days ahead.
The boy (from Ampara) in this photo is blind, cannot speak, and needs nourishment which his single mother struggles to provide to him (born 04/06/2000) and his brother and sister. We provided 5-months of milk rations (fortified powdered milk) for him and school supplies for his siblings. The child also needs vitamins which we will provide as funds become available.

This 16 year old girl from Ampara, shown with her grandmother who helps to care for her, is paralyzed due to some mistakes done at the hospital when he was admitted at age 6-months. This 17-year-old boy (born 10/23/1994) from Ampara was born with birth defects, but is still able to attend school (grade 12) and can ride a bicycle. He needs help with educational materials, clothes, and food which we are providing.
This boy from Mangalagama village (Ampara District), was born on 10/25/2003 with severe birth defects. We are providing milk rations (fortified powdered milk) to help with his nutritional needs. Mangalagama is a remote jungle village where Missions of Hope has been active building drinking water wells, toilets, and various humanitarian projects. The people in this area are civil-war refugees who settled in Mangalagama to escape from the Tamil Tigers who pushed them out of their homes in other areas of eastern Sri Lanka.
